Born in Hyderabad in 1944, artist Daroz Pandurangiah is a renowned sculptor and artist. His work in clay embodies his unique and bold techniques and vision, bending the place and prose his work occupies in the contemporary context. A graduate from the College of Fine Arts and Architecture, Hyderabad, Daroz studied Applied Art and Design before training in sculpture. He went on to specialise in ceramics under the tutelage of Jyotsna Bhatt at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Baroda.
Daroz has come to be synonymous with large scale ceramic installations in India, and his architectural installations are highly sought after and celebrated. His work explores the materiality of his medium, bringing drama and dialogue to his work- whether it is utilitarian or abstract.
His conversations in clay span over five decades, with numerous solo and group shows to his credit, including solo exhibitions at the Jehangir Art Gallery and Max Mueller Bhavan in India. He has also extensively participated in international art festivals and co-ordinated camps and workshops across the country. Daroz was awarded the National Award from Lalit Kala Akademi, Delhi (2004) and a senior fellowship from the Government of India (1998).
