Born in Nizampur, Hyderabad State in 1942, Kala Laxma Goud is a prolific artist who explores a rich array of mediums and techniques to give life to his raw, poetic and erotic themes. He is a painter, printmaker and draughtsman, and works with etching, gouache, pastel, sculpture, and glass painting to name a few.
Goud studied drawing and painting at the Government College of Fine Arts and Architecture in Hyderabad, before going on to study mural painting under K. G. Subramanyan at the Faculty of Fine Arts, M.S. University, Baroda. It was at the latter that Goud discovered his passion and flair for print-making. His work centres around the rural, with landscapes from his early childhood offering backdrop to an interesting dialogue across time and tradition. His work has evolved to become more introspective in its tone over the years, with the erotic emerging as a recurrent theme across medium and motif.
He has exhibited extensively across the globe with numerous solo shows, group shows and art festivals under his belt. In 2016, he was conferred with a Padma Sri by the Government of India.
